Apology in advance for the return to crappy pictures.  I wasn’t sure how this project would turn out, so I didn’t really intend to blog it, but I’m stoked with the results, and I thought I would share. Despite the phone pics.

Kicking around in my closet, I had a pair of size 10 Ricki’s stretchy black pinstripe dress pants.  They were too big, but I hadn’t gotten rid of them yet.

Since I have a new sewing machine, I figured I would try my hand at refashioning them –  i.e., turning them from too-big flared pants into skinny ankle pants.  This was not a complicated process on my part….I took my favourite skinny jeans (H&M, size 30), and laid them on top of my pants (which were wrong side out).

sewing project....

Then I took a white crayon, conveniently stolen from my eldest’s crayon box, and traced the jeans.  After, I pinned the pants, and sewed along my crayon line (because these were pinstripe, I trimmed from both sides, so my pants wouldn’t have weird angled stripes on them.

I tried them on at this point, was happy, and so I sewed a zigzag line parallel to the seam I had sewn (to keep the pants from fraying – I don’t have a serger or anything fancy like that….nor would I know how to use one).  Then I trimmed off the excess.  After that, I put them back on, decided on a length and pinned.  Sewed ‘em and then again trimmed the excess.  Didn’t take me long. And nobody is flipping them wrong side out to admire my handiwork.  :p

So now I have new black skinnies.  :)  I was just quickly snapping a pic and threw the blazer on (which I actually love with the shoes).  I wouldn’t wear the grey shirt out and about (it’s basically a knit grey camisole), but I’m going to keep this red + black + grey + blue shoe combo in my pocket.  I love these shoes.  You’ll see them again, I’m sure.

And yay for new pants!
