My seventh wedding anniversary is tomorrow. This makes me happy, because after seven years, I’m still delirious with joy to be married to my amazing hubs.
We celebrated this weekend with a night out in the big city (Toronto) and away from the kids. With thanks to my mom for making it possible. We noshed on scrumptious food at L’Ouvrier and just enjoyed the ability to sleep in, with no one running into our room (though I think a drunk guy may have tried?) and no crying. Perfection.
One of the (many) reasons I was stoked for our date night is that I have a number of dresses I’ve not yet worn (no worries – they won’t remain virgin for long, but while I”m still on mat leave, I just can’t justify a sheath dress…seems a little try-hard/Stepford wife for my taste).
Anyway, I was SO STOKED to wear this new green dress. I’m not sure the phone completely captures the rich emerald chiffon of the dress, but it’s just gorgeous. And the shape is perfect for me – flares out at the waist, and skims over the squashy bits…making me look great.
There’s a bit of a story behind this dress, which I recently scored on clearance from Jacob.ca….the sizing is whacked. I had initially ordered an 8, which should have been snug, but workable, according to the size chart….but when I got it, it actually had about an 8-inch gap at the back….ugh…..yes. So I ordered it in a 12 and returned the 8. And the 12 fits like a glove. Ergo, yet again I say to ignore the size on the label, and get what fits. And this dress, in a 12, is perfect (don’t mind the dumb grin…)
Given that it’s February, I decided to pair the dress with a navy blazer (my new one from Dynamite, that you’ve already seen a couple of times - seriously one of the favourite things in my closet right now), wide grey belt, grey pumps and a turquoise statement necklace. And I thought the fuchsia clutch added a fun pop of colour (I had grandiose plans of fuchsia nails as well, but opted instead for the rare indulgence of a late afternoon nap). You’ll forgive me, right?
I felt great in this outfit. It fit like a glove, and the full skirt of the dress allowed me to eat everything I wanted at dinner.
Which was a lot…
Dress – Jacob (size 12, similar, similar, splurge), Blazer – Dynamite (size M, same, similar), Belt – Joe Fresh (Size L, similar), Necklace – etsy (almost identical), clutch – Matt&Nat (same (I only paid about $28 on BTR though), similar), Shoes – Steve Madden (size 8, similar, similar, splurge)
I feel a little weird actually putting my face in this post, but at least I have make up on and hair done. ;)

You look stunning! Happy Anniversary.
Thanks R!
